EU RESPONDS TO IMMEDIATE NEEDS IN AREAS AFFECTED BY CYCLONES IN MALAWI

In order to respond to the immediate needs in areas that experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds that resulted in heavy flooding, the European Union in Malawi authorized the activation of crisis modifiers under the on-going resilience building and nutrition programmes in Nsanje, Chikwawa and Mulanje worth €392,404.

The work is being implemented on the ground with Concern Worldwide, United Purpose and World Food Programme.

Yesterday, the EU Ambassador Rune Skinnebach, participated in the distribution of take-home rations to school children affected by floods in Chikwawa district, under the Tsogolo la Thanzi ( TSOLATA) school meals programme implemented by World Programme ( WFP) of the United Nations.

Skinnebach said through take home food-rations , the communities will be helped in coping better with the effects of floods.

An addition €500,000 was provided by EU humanitarian office, ECHO to Oxfam for emergency humanitarian assistance to flood affected families
