Lilongwe Nsinja North constituency Bintony Kutsaira has endorsed President Lazarus Chakwera as 2025 General Elections candidate, amid division within the Tonse Alliance as to who will be a torchbearer.
There is infightIng between the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) led by Chakwera and UTM led by Vice President Saulos Chilima as to who will lead the Tonse Alliance in 2025.
This follows failure by the two parties to release their political alliance agreement to the general public.
Speaking on Friday at Mitundu Primary School ground in Lilongwe during an MCP political rally, Kutsaila assured the Chakwera of total support during the forthcoming general elections.
“Mr President, be assured that you will get all the votes in 2025 from this area. We will give you 100 percent votes. In 2025 it will be you, nobody else,” said Kutsaira amid jubilations from spectators.
A former opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislature who has dumped parties once they are booted out of government, Kutsaila was apologetic saying Zakale zapita (let bygones be bygones).
After resigning from DPP last year, he was linked with a move to MCP.
Kutsaira has always defected to the ruling party.
He dumped MCP and joined the DPP where late President Bingu wa Mutharika gave him the position of deputy minister of Agriculture.
After Mutharika’s death in 2012, he joined the Peoples Party (PP) soon after former president Joyce Banda was sworn in as president.
After the DPP came back to power after ousting the Peoples Party at the ballot box in 2014, Kutsaira rejoined the DPP.
