Residents March For Mchinji Community Ground
Frustrated community members, largely sports lovers, in Mchinji marched to the district commissioner’s office on Tuesday demanding an explanation for the continued delays in completion of the Mchinji Community Ground Project, whose construction works began in 2010.
They are questioning why the stalled project is failing to resume despite allocation of the K43 million-Governance to Enable Service Delivery-GESD funds for the cause.
Representative of the community members, James Chidza claimed the district council has been changing dates for the commencement of the construction works since October last year.
Chidza added they would petition the DC to transfer, District Sports Officer Martin Panyanja before coming up with a list of others who must leave if the construction works don’t start by February 25 this year.

“It is sad that the district has nothing to point as the sports infrastructure which paints a bad image yet other districts are developing,” added Chadza.
Director of Public Works at the district council, Elis Tembo said they were waiting for the procurement process and signature of the contractor who will be doing the work.
Last year, through its official Facebook page, the district council announced it had allocated over K40 million for the construction of drilling boreholes, dressing rooms, toilets and renovation of the ground.
