The much anticipated Mozambique-Malawi Interconnector Project has officially commenced.
The 400 KV line which will run from Matambo Power Station in Mozambique to Phombeya in Malawi will enable Malawi to get an extra 110 megawatts and increase as time goes by.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony at Mutarara in Mozambique, Malawi’s Consular General to Tete -Mozambique, Happy Saka, said this was good news for Malawi as it will help to reduce power outages in the country and attract the needed investors.
The World Bank-funded project is being carried out by Lansen and Toubre and Gora Civil Engineering Company.
Project Manager for the Mozambique side MOMA Consulting Engineer, Mehmet Kurtcu, disclosed that the project will be complete by December 2023.
