Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) has engaged Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) members in Karonga District to include gender aspects when implementing their programs.
Speaking after a two-day training for the organizations, EAM District Project Coordinator for Karonga, Dumisani Nungu said the organizations need to understand the importance of gender mainstreaming when coming up with proposals and action plans.
“We decided to organize this training after noting gender related gaps in implementation of various development projects in the district, hence engaged the CSOs members so that they play a leading role in promoting gender equality at all levels,” he said.
Nungu said he was optimistic that the training will bring positive results to the CSOs which implement projects and that gender issues will be easily addressed.
District Gender Officer for Karonga, Ireen Mwenelupembe commended EAM for the training, saying the initiative will go a long way in complementing her office’s efforts in promoting gender equality in the district.
Vice Chairperson for Karonga CSOs Network, Edgar Phiri commended EAM for organizing the training saying it served as an eye-opener.
“This training is vital as many of us were not aware of the gender elements that were not put into consideration when implementing projects in the past years,” he said.
