CDEDI to commence citizens pioneered investigations into Chilima’s plane crash
A Human Rights, Governance and Social Concerns organization, Concerned Citizens Timely Voice (CCTV), says it has endorsed the actions taken by CDEDI of commencing citizenry pioneered investigation into the plane crash that claimed the lives of Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others, in the Chikangawa forest in Mzimba district on Monday, 10th June, 2024.
Since the plane crash in the Chikangawa forest, government has till today not instituted a Commission of Inquiry to establish circumstances that led to the military aircraft to crash killing Dr. Chilima, Former First Lady Dr. Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri and seven others.
There have been two investigations by the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and German Aircraft manufacturers experts of which Malawians have no chance to force for the release of the investigations since they were not a commission of inquiry.
In a statement dated 13th September, 2024 signed by Henry Gonani, Assistant Executive Director and three others, the CCTV has come out in support of DPPs Ana Achepa to hold a vigil at Chinsapo Police Station in Lilongwe.
In the video clip released by Ana Achepa, Malawians know names of people that he identified in person to be MCP members, the matter was reported to Chinsapo Police Station including the identities of the said attackers but, the police have made no arrests till this day.
The CCTV says it has noted with a great concern the silence of the police in apprehension of the suspects who attacked Ana Achepa at the By-pass Road in Lilongwe saying this is speaking to itself that the police are compromise in their core mandate.
The organization says to avoid further attack on Ana Achepa as he goes to do a vigil at Chinsapo Police Station to force speedy arrest of the attackers, it has urged DPP party to be in solidarity with their member.
It says silence from the police is setting a bad precedence as the country is drawing closer to 2025 General elections observing that Malawians are peace-loving, imploring the police to desist from being politicians as this might create chaotic scenes when individuals start retaliation.
“Malawi is a democratic country and nobody is above the law, let’s do justice to our children by making people in public positions accountable to their actions,” reads part of the statement.
The CCTV has finally warned the authorities that timidity of any kind will not shape the kind of Malawi the citizens want it to be with a warning that Malawi citizens shall all die as fools together in One Malawi, One People and One Nation.
Meanwhile, the CCTV has endorsed a petition which was written by the Concerned Citizens of Malawi led by Chairperson Activist Edwards Kambanje taking the matters of Immigration Department and National Registration Bureau (NRB) to Parliament.
