Malawi needs professionals in leadership, says UTM presidential aspirant Dr. Dalitso Kabambe

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, one of the UTM Party’s presidential aspirants, has called for more professionals to enter the political arena, saying Malawi needs expert-driven leadership to tackle the nation’s pressing social and economic challenges. Speaking today to delegates from the Sapitwa region ahead of the party’s upcoming elective convention, Dr. Kabambe emphasized that professionals should actively participate in politics, rather than merely criticizing politicians’ shortcomings.

Kabambe expressed that professionals, particularly those with specialized knowledge in areas like economics, healthcare, and infrastructure, could be instrumental in creating sustainable solutions. “We cannot continue pointing fingers at politicians for mismanaging government affairs; it is high time we joined the race ourselves to drive positive change for Malawi,” he urged.

Discussing his candidacy, Dr. Kabambe encouraged delegates to support him, stating that his 25-year background as an economist has equipped him with the expertise needed for both the UTM presidency and, potentially, the national presidency. “With my experience, I believe I am the right candidate who can bring transformative leadership to UTM and, ultimately, to the whole of Malawi,” Kabambe declared.

In a significant show of support, the party’s Organising Secretary, Willet Kalonga, has endorsed Kabambe’s bid, making him the latest high-ranking UTM official to back the economist’s campaign. Kalonga highlighted Kabambe’s professional background as a key asset, noting that such expertise could help steer Malawi towards stability and growth.

UTM’s elective convention, scheduled for the 17th of this month in Mzuzu, promises to be a pivotal moment for the party as it selects its leadership ahead of the national elections. With Kabambe’s candidacy gaining endorsements from key party figures, his message of professional-led governance is resonating with delegates eager to see a new era in Malawian politics.
