According to police, eleven young people, including eight males and three females, were arrested today for attempting to incite a disturbance at Capital Hill, Lilongwe, during a protest.

Earlier this morning, the group, consisting of young people seeking to be sent to work in Israel, gathered at the gates of Capital Hill to express their dissatisfaction with the government’s management of the labor export program. They were hoping to voice their concerns about the delays and inefficiencies they had experienced.

Tensions flared when the group attempted to enter the premises of Capital Hill, which led to a confrontation with the police. In the ensuing chaos, police dispersed the crowd with tear gas, causing some of the protesters, including their leader Yotamu Ng’ambi, to be arrested.

The arrested individuals are currently being held at the local police station and will face charges related to their actions during the protest.
