The UTM Party has accused Michael Usi of harboring intentions to destroy the achievements left behind by the late Saulos Chilima through the party.
Speaking on the matter, UTM spokesperson Felix Njawala said this following Usi’s remarks that he would not attend tomorrow’s meeting with the party’s organizing committee in Lilongwe.
Usi, who took over the leadership of the party after Chilima’s tragic death in a plane crash, stated that he would not be questioned by individuals who gained positions in the party through a convention that allegedly violated UTM’s constitution.
In response, Njawala said Malawians now know Usi’s true intentions, adding that the party will not tolerate further disruptions.
“We have shown him respect despite the chaos he has been bringing to the party,” said Njawala.
He further expressed surprise at Usi’s complaints regarding a report on the K61 million the party received from the government for Chilima’s funeral arrangements.
“Usi was the one in charge of how the funds were to be used. He was our leader at the time and approved everything that happened. We are urging him to release the report he has so that Malawians can know the truth,” Njawala added.
The rift within UTM continues to widen, with party members and the public keenly observing the unfolding drama. Will UTM rise above the conflict, or is this the beginning of the party’s disintegration? Only time will tell.
