Former UTM Youth Achievers member, Comrade James Chidumayo Nkhata from Mzimba, has announced his resignation from the party, citing personal business commitments as his primary reason for stepping away from political activities.
Nkhata made his resignation public through a social media post, where he clearly stated his decision to completely detach himself from UTM and its activities. In his resignation letter, he firmly vowed never to wear party colors or promote anything related to the party. This declaration signals a definitive break from active political involvement and a shift in focus towards personal endeavors.
While Nkhata did not disclose further details about his business ventures, his decision reflects a growing trend among some young politicians who are prioritizing economic empowerment over political activism. His departure from UTM raises questions about the party’s ability to retain and engage its youthful membership, especially as political dynamics continue to evolve in Malawi.
Political analysts suggest that his resignation could have implications for UTM’s grassroots structures, particularly in Mzimba, where he had influence among young party supporters. However, it remains to be seen whether his decision will impact the party’s standing or inspire other members to follow a similar path.
As of now, UTM has not issued an official statement regarding Nkhata’s resignation, and it is unclear whether the party leadership will attempt to engage him in discussions to reconsider his decision. Meanwhile, his announcement has sparked debate on social media, with some applauding his focus on personal development while others speculate on possible underlying political reasons behind his resignation.
Nkhata’s move serves as a reminder of the fluid nature of political affiliations in Malawi, where young leaders often navigate between politics and business in pursuit of economic stability and personal growth. Whether his departure signals a broader trend within UTM or remains an isolated case, only time will tell.
