MCP candidates pens MCP over threatening remarks

By Vincent Gunde

Four aspiring MCP parliamentarians for Lilongwe-Mpenu constituency, have written a letter to MCP Secretary General over threatening remarks made by the party’s Director of Youth Steven Baba Malondera that the MCP will not allow its former Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka to lose primary elections.

Speaking during the MCPs mega rally which held in Mpenu-Lilongwe rural East, Malondera came out open that he is in support of Mkakka being one of the people who have sacrificed to keep the party moving in time of glory and sorrow.

Malondera said Mkaka is one of the survival of the fittest in the MCP and as such the MCP will do all of what it can to make sure that he wins the primary elections no matter what, the remarks which have not gone well with other competing candidates.

He is on record having told the rally that the MCP is ready even to allow itself to spend 4 days within Lilongwe-Mpenu constituency just to make sure that Mkaka wins the primary elections meaning that it is the wish of the party for Mkaka to go unopposed in the elections.

In the letter dated 28th April, 2025 signed by Samson Chaziya, Beauty Kumtomoni, Aaron Makala Ngozo and Ian Mtayamanja, the concerned MCP candidates have questioned Malondera what he meant when he said, the party will not allow Mkaka to lose the elections.

The four, have also asked Malondera to clarify his statement that the party can allow itself to spend 4 days within Lilongwe-Mpenu constituency to make sure that Mkaka wins. saying these remarks have made them to sit down as candidates to write a letter complaining to the party.

“We really want to know what does he meant by those statements, his remarks are of great concern to us and we are fearing it with many questions than answers,” reads the letter in part.

Political activist Bon Kalindo has accused the MCP of practicing savage politics of wishing one to be dead claiming that the MCP has a history of killing opponents describing this as a threat to democracy and will take the party to nowhere.

Kalindo has asked the MCP to go back to the drawing board to find itself where it is getting wrong for corrections claiming that in the party, there are some individuals who are taking themselves as more of MCP than others.

He said these people are the ones who have captured President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, Malawi Defense Force, Malawi Police Service and other security agencies in Malawi and are at the top giving instructions to the institutions on what to do.

“MCP has people who do not know to differentiate running a party and government, it is not a surprise that President Chakwera’s leadership has failed to run the country in the interest of all because he is captured by individuals in the MCP,” said Kalindo.

He said what is happening in the MCP is the wake-up call for the party to sit down and reach one common good so that justice is seen at the end of the day observing that as the writings are on the wall, Malawians don’t want MCP and vote rigging will put the party into trouble.
