Kalindo alleges MDF has stolen money from DRC soldiers

By Vincent Gunde

Political activist Bon Kalindo has accused the Malawi Government and senior Malawi Defense Force (MDF) soldiers for stealing money which could have gone to the soldiers who have been participating in peace-keeping missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Kalindo said the United Nations and United States of America (USA) pay the soldiers through the Government of Malawi that when the Malawi soldiers return home, they should pocket the whole money saved for them.

He said the UN provides military vehicles to the Government of Malawi and other resources to equip the Malawi Defense Force to be a force to reckon with in the SADC region but the Malawi Government does not appreciate this UN support.

Speaking through an audio clip, Kalindo said the UN pays each soldier participating in peace-keeping mission 3 million Malawi Kwacha per months and at the end of the 13 months stay in the DRC, they are supposed to get K40 million after deductions from the Government of Malawi.

Kalindo said the soldiers have expressed a surprise that instead of getting K40 million, they are getting K21 million, government has deducted from each soldier K19 million saying this is speaking for itself that Malawians are being ruled by a crooked government.

He said these soldiers while in their stay in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) pass through various traumas, some are coming back to Malawi with amputated legs, hands, and various deformities on their bodies, and deducting money from them without explaining the good reasons for doing that, is a sin before God.

The activist has claimed that it is not only soldiers that are suffering in the country claiming that police officers, teachers and nurses are being taken as useless while the MCP government is using them as part of its vote rigging scheme on the 16th September, 2025 elections.

He said Mec has announced the verification exercise where people could be going in registration centres to verify their names reminding Mec that some of the police officers who participated in the previous Mec exercises are still this day not paid their dues.

“If you are failing to pay those that worked for you, will you deliver free, fair, credible and transparent elections? The answer is no,” said Kalindo.

He has accused Mec of inviting political parties Director of youth to advise them to campaign in violent-free environment wondering if Mec is not aware of MCP youth operatives who have been terrorizing and hacking innocent people in Lilongwe.

Kalindo said Mec should not be talking of peace ahead of the 16th September, 2025 elections when the MCP is using them to frustrate Malawians so that they retaliate against MCP thugs who are armed with panga knives masking their faces.

He said police in Malawi are failing to arrest MCP youth operatives advising Mec that they better keep quiet other than provoking the already angry Malawians that Mec is for peace while the same is rejecting independent auditors to audit Smartmatic machines.
