Comrade Jumbe said over the past five years, the Malawi Revenue Authority ( MRA) has dramatically increased the amount of money it collects from citizens and businesses claiming that official figures are showing that revenue collection has risen from about MK 1.04 trillion in 2020/21 to approximately MK 3.06 trillion in 2024/25 and this was without Electronic Invoicing System.

He said billions and billions have been collected from hardworking Malawians – from traders in the market, transport operators, small shops, salaried workers, and struggling businesses saying despite this massive growth in tax collection, ordinary citizens have a painful and important question in full of tears, what has changed in their lives? The answer is obvious, completely nothing.
