Suleman Chitera The state funeral of Britain’s longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II takes place at Westminster Abbey today.
Several Heads of State and Government and dignitaries will grace the ceremony.
Malawi will be represented by Former President Dr Joyce Banda under the delegation of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
Globally, people will follow the funeral through various social media platforms and television. Following the wish of the Queen’s successor, her son King Charles III, the public mourning period will continue across the United Kingdom for a week after the funeral.
Queen Elizabeth II died last week at the age of 96. She was the Queen of Britain and Head of the Commonwealth for 70 years.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says some flights to and from London’s Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom would be disrupted, to guarantee quiet conditions for the funeral of the Queen.
Flying restrictions have also been imposed over central London and Windsor on the same day. The CAA says no aircraft, including drones, will be permitted to fly below 762 metres over areas where services are taking place. The authority further says the ban, which includes small balloons and kites, is necessary for security reasons.
