The 2023 Africa Union Region 5 Amateur Golf Challenge has officially been opened in Lilongwe.
The flag raising and opening which took place at Lilongwe Golf Club was graced by Minister of Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire.
In his remarks marking the official opening of the show, Mkandawire said the tournament has come in time as the government is striving to develop different sports disciplines.
Mkandawire wished the teams the best of luck in the four days of action.
Golf Union of Malawi President, Gift Chidya Gondwe, said they are geared to host the six countries.
He further said he is optimistic of Malawi’s success at the tournament adding that it is a great milestone for Malawi in its quest to revitalise the sport.
The games are set to roll out on Thursday with the round one stroke play ranking for 18 holes followed by foursomes and singles for 36 holes in the second round of the tournament on Thursday then a final round of 18 holes singles on Saturday.
Six countries taking part in the event are; Eswatini, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa and hosts Malawi
