Fuel Crisis Is The Sign Of Government Incompetence

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has said the fuel crisis facing the country is a sign of the government’s incompetence in managing the basic needs of Malawians.

In a statement signed by HRDC chairperson Gift Trapence, HRDC has demanded immediate and decisive action on the matter saying the crisis can no longer be tolerated. HRDC says if the government cannot manage the situation, it should step aside.

The human rights defenders body says it will not sit back and watch Malawians suffer because of inefficient and
incompetent leadership.

It has called on authorities responsible to act with speed and ensure a steady supply of fuel, failure to do so should lead to their resignation.

“The people of Malawi deserve leaders who can act, not officials who sit idle while the country burns. If the Government cannot resolve this crisis, it must step aside and make way for those who can,” reads the statement.

HRDC has emphasized that the crisis is not just about fuel but the survival of the country and the future of citizens.

“This crisis is a national emergency, and the people of Malawi will no longer tolerate a Government that is out of touch, out of ideas, and out of time,” reads the statement.

Government has been challenged to clean up its procurement process and implement a transparent, efficient, and corruption-free system. It must put an end to the use of middlemen in sourcing fuel.

“The Government knows exactly where to buy fuel and has the means to purchase it directly from suppliers. Yet, it continues to complicate the process by involving third parties who have no interest in the wellbeing of Malawians. This must stop now,” reads the statement.
