NRB Expands Biometric Registration Centers Amid Voter Registration Drive

The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has announced the opening of additional National Identity Biometric Registration Centers across all districts where the Voter Registration exercise is currently underway.

This move is aimed at ensuring that all eligible citizens can participate in the upcoming elections.

In a media statement signed by Mak Sambo, Principal Secretary of NRB, logistical challenges have caused delays in equipment and staff deployment to some centers.

Sambo, However, NRB teams are working tirelessly to complete the deployment by Monday, November 11, 2024.

He highlights that: “citizens who have already registered for a National ID but have lost their card or are yet to collect it can proceed with voter registration, where NRB will assist with Identity Verification.

“The National ID registration is free of charge, as mandated by the Malawi National Registration Act (No. 13 of 2010).’

He added that the second phase has commenced, covering districts including Nkhatabay, Rumphi, Likoma, Kasungu, Kasungu Municipality, Dowa, Mchinji, Ntcheu, Zomba, Zomba City, Thyolo, and Luchenza Municipality.

The NRB’s efforts are crucial in ensuring that all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections.

With the expansion of biometric registration centers, the bureau aims to enhance the voter registration process and prevent potential disenfranchisement.
