A Rigged Foundation: Smartmatic and the Tactics of Manipulation–Jumbe

By Comrade jumbe

The call for transparency has been met with a dismissive response as MCP insists on using the controversial Smartmatic company to oversee our voting process.

Why this steadfast attachment to Smartmatic, despite concerns from citizens across the country?

Could it be that they seek to orchestrate the process to favor certain outcomes?

The proverb goes, “A tree bent when young grows crooked in old age.” When the foundation of any process is rooted in dishonesty, the results will be equally tainted.

As one of the candidates in this election, I stand with those Malawians who demand that votes be counted manually, ensuring accountability and transparency at every step.

Anabel Ntalimanja, the current chair of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), bears a heavy weight in this narrative.

Her deep ties to the MCP, as the daughter of the late party leader John Tembo, create an unbreakable bond that compromises the impartiality required for a fair election.

The people have spoken, and they have spoken loudly: Ntalimanja must step aside to restore faith in this election process.

Her continued presence only fans the flames of doubt and suspicion.

“The hunter in charge of guarding the chickens can never be trusted.” How can we expect impartiality and honesty from someone who has grown within the very heart of the party in power?

To proceed with Anabel Ntalimanja at the helm of MEC is to court disaster and erode the legitimacy of these elections.

The process of voter registration has already shown disturbing signs of bias, with some regions seemingly favored over others.

This uneven playing field, where some Malawians find it difficult to register while others face no hindrance with suspicious high numbers registered in some regions, is an ominous sign.

An election must begin with equal access for all citizens, regardless of where they reside or who they support.

“A house divided cannot stand.” This imbalance in registration serves only to divide us further, setting us on a path toward division and discord.

I urge the electoral authorities to conduct fair and equal voter registration across all regions, lest this election be branded a farce.

As a candidate, I refuse to stand idly by while these injustices unfold. The will of the people is being undermined before our very eyes, and if these grievances go unanswered, I will join the chorus of voices demanding a boycott of this election.

We cannot participate in a process marred by manipulation and deceit, for to do so would be to betray our values and our commitment to democracy.

This election must be conducted with integrity, and all complaints must be addressed with the urgency they deserve.

We cannot allow ourselves to be pawns in a game of power at the expense of our nation’s future.

I say this to mcp: Remember how you came to power. Remember the leaders who respected the rule of law and allowed democracy to flourish.

The people of Malawi granted you the power you hold today, and they can just as easily withdraw it.

Do not throw this nation into chaos with short-sighted ambitions.

The roots of a nation run deep, and when they are poisoned by greed, the entire tree will wither.

Malawi stands at a crossroads, and we, the people, are watching closely.

We demand fairness, transparency, and justice.

We call upon the guardians of this election to protect democracy and uphold the will of the people.

Let this election be a testament to our strength and unity, not a blemish on our national history.I

In the wise words of our elders, “Truth is the knife that cuts through lies.” May this truth guide us forward, and may the 2025 elections be a true reflection of the people’s will.
