In a significant political development, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) have officially entered into an alliance ahead of Malawi’s highly anticipated September 16 elections.
The two parties signed the agreement this afternoon at the AFORD headquarters in Lilongwe, signaling a strategic move to consolidate their support and influence in the coming polls.
Representing the DPP at the signing ceremony was Jane Ansah, the party’s vice president and close ally of DPP leader Peter Mutharika. AFORD was represented by its president, Enock Chihana.
Speaking after the signing, Ansah emphasized that the alliance is a reflection of a shared vision for national development, democratic governance, and inclusive leadership. “This partnership is not just about elections—it’s about building a better Malawi,” she said.
Chihana echoed the sentiment, stating that AFORD is committed to working with like-minded parties to restore economic stability and social justice in the country. “Together, we believe we can provide the leadership Malawi needs right now,” he noted.
The DPP-AFORD alliance is expected to influence the political landscape significantly as the country heads into what is shaping up to be a highly competitive election season.
