The UTM Party is setting its sights high, aiming to bag over 700,000 votes from the Northern Region in the September 16 elections.

Speaking at a charged rally in Mzuzu, the party’s Director of Strategic Planning, Yongo wa Yongo, declared that UTM’s choice of Matthews Mtumbuka—a Northern native—as running mate to presidential candidate Dalitso Kabambe has galvanized support.

“A strong running mate is as powerful as a leader. No political party can rival the Kabambe-Mtumbuka pair,” Yongo asserted.

UTM’s Publicity Secretary Felix Njawala dismissed speculation that the party is shunning alliances, saying coalition talks remain open.

“Our goal is not about power, but about transforming the lives of Malawians,” he said.

With the North emerging as a key battleground, UTM is betting on regional loyalty and a dynamic ticket to deliver a historic breakthrough.
