The Malawi Police Service (MPS) under the former Inspector General Marylyn Nachulu Yolamu, has been the worst in the history of democracy in Malawi, it was receiving orders from politicians of the ruling party in government on who to arrest and shield.
Two senior Police Commissioners Richard Luhanga and Dr. Noel Kayira have been the targets by the MCP government of President Chakwera, they worked in line with the police mandate to enforce law and order.
Bakili Muluzi TV said Ndirande youth blocked President Dr. Chakwera’s convoy at HHI in Blantyre for funeral procession to pass through at the time that President Chakwera was rushing to Chileka Airport to board a plane to the DRC.
Following this, Commissioner of Police Richard Luhanga was transferred to Mzuzu and Commissioner Dr. Noel Kayira was transferred from Mzuzu to Blantyre and it did not take long, Commissioner Kayira refused to take orders from MCP politicians too fire teargas to disperse angry crowds who held a vigil at the entrance of Blantyre Police Station to make sure that DPPs Sameer Suleman is not transfeered to Lilongwe to answer his case, this earned him a transfer to Bvumbwe Police station in Thyolo.
Commissioner Richard Luhanga in Mzuzu refused to take orderS from MCP politician to fire teargas to vendors who were holding demonstrations in MzuZU, this ended up with MCP cooking up a case against him that he stole a tin of paint to paint his personal house.
The police Commissioner was arrested and today, God has changed the signpost, Commissioner Richard Luhanga is now Inspector General of Police and Commissioner Dr. Noel Kayira is Deputy Inspector General of police responsible for Administration advising Malawians that every time they should check time.
