Honourable Suleman has gained overwhelming support in the race for the position of Speaker of Parliament, emerging as the only candidate so far endorsed by all 198 Members of Parliament (MPs).

According to sources within Parliament, Suleman’s name has continued to dominate discussions among lawmakers ahead of the official election of the new Speaker. His endorsement by such a large number of MPs positions him as a clear favourite to take over the top parliamentary seat.

In an interview with Nyuxi, one of the other contenders for the same position, Honourable Million, acknowledged Suleman’s growing popularity but maintained optimism for the race.

“Many people are saying they want Hon. Suleman, but there is still time — perhaps things might change for some of us,” said Hon. Million.

Efforts to reach Hon. Kondwani Nankhumwa for comment were unsuccessful, while Hon. Sam Kawale indicated that he was not yet ready to speak on the matter.

If elected, Hon. Suleman will take charge of a crucial role that demands impartiality, integrity, and strong leadership to ensure effective debates and legislative processes in Malawi’s Parliament.

Political analysts say Suleman’s broad acceptance across party lines could mark a new era of unity and collaboration in the House. His endorsement from 198 MPs reflects a rare show of consensus in the often-divided political landscape of Malawi.
