Councillor for Katoto-Chibavi Ward in Mzuzu, Gabriel Mwaungulu, has promised to work with everyone to develop the area.

Mwaungulu made the pledge on Wednesday at Chibavi during a celebration marking his re-election as councillor, which was held after he was sworn in.

Mwaungulu, who is serving his third term, said the time for politics is over, and it’s now time to work together to develop the ward.

“Everyone has the right to support their preferred candidate, and we should respect that. What’s important now is to work together to bring development to our area,” he said.

Mwaungulu, who won the seat in the September 16, 2025 elections, promised to ensure various development projects are implemented in the ward, which has expanded following the recent demarcation exercise by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

“I will soon meet with block leaders and other stakeholders to identify priority projects for the area. We will then come up with a development plan,” he said.

In his remarks, Nathan Bophela Ngulube, chairperson for block leaders in Katoto-Chibavi Ward, welcomed Mwaungulu’s victory and pledged full support.

“As block leaders, we will support him to ensure development projects are implemented in the area. I urge fellow block leaders to work with the councillor to develop the ward,” Ngulube said.

The victory party was attended by various people, including clergy and block leaders.
