Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the South, Charles Mchacha, has called on losing parliamentary candidates to rally behind the party’s elected Members of Parliament, stressing that unity and discipline are essential as the party reorganises after the September 16, 2025 elections.

Speaking during a strategic meeting held in the Southern Region, Mchacha said the DPP must remain focused, coordinated, and forward-looking if it is to present itself as a strong and credible opposition capable of providing meaningful checks and balances in Malawi’s political landscape.

“Election Period Is Over—Time to Work Together”

Mchacha emphasised that internal divisions only weaken the party at a time when Malawians are looking for effective leadership in Parliament.

“We must accept that the election period is over. This is the moment to work with our colleagues who won so that together we advance the vision of Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, who remains the most reliable leader for this country,” said Mchacha.

He also highlighted the need for discipline, loyalty, and collective political strategy, noting that unity is the only path to rebuilding the party’s national influence.

Losing Candidates Pledge Support

One of the losing candidates, Joseph Chadaleka of Chikwawa West, commended the Regional Governor for initiating the reconciliation meeting, saying it has opened a new chapter for rebuilding the party.

“This is not the time for personal politics. We appreciate the Regional Governor for convening this meeting, which will help us rebuild and realign ourselves as a united front,” Chadaleka said.

Chadaleka stressed that the DPP’s strength lies in how well its structures reorganise and respond to the expectations of Malawians.

DPP Seeks Stronger Opposition Role

The meeting is part of broader efforts by the DPP to restore internal cohesion, strengthen grassroots structures, and prepare for upcoming political engagements. Party officials say unity is key to positioning the DPP as a formidable force ahead of future national elections.

As the party continues its post-election review, leaders hope the renewed spirit of collaboration will help the DPP regain public trust and reinforce its role as a responsible and constructive opposition
