Chiradzulu—A passionate call has been made to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to honor Malawi’s national hero, John Chilembwe, by naming major national development projects after him. The appeal, coming from a Chiradzulu-based activist and social commentator, emphasizes that Chilembwe’s legacy of courage, dignity, and leadership should guide the nation’s path toward progress.
The activist urged the government to go further, proposing a flagship infrastructure project in John Chilembwe’s home village, ensuring that his birthplace becomes a symbol of Malawi’s modern development while preserving its historical significance.
“John Chilembwe fought for freedom, justice, and the dignity of every Malawian. It is only fitting that our country’s greatest projects carry his name, reminding citizens of the sacrifices made for the Malawi we enjoy today,” he said.
Communities across Chiradzulu and beyond have welcomed the proposal, seeing it as a bold initiative that merges national pride with concrete development. By linking history to modern progress, Malawi can celebrate its heroes while building a brighter future.
This call to action presents a unique opportunity for the government to immortalize a true patriot, turning Chilembwe’s name into a beacon for development, unity, and inspiration for generations to come.
