Supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party and loyalists of former President Peter Mutharika have intensified pressure on the presidency, demanding the immediate dismissal of presidential adviser Luthar Mambala over allegations of political negligence, exclusion of loyal activists, and failure to unite pro-government civil groups.

The calls emerged following a heated night meeting organized by the Malawi Freedom Fighters (MFF), where activists and political supporters openly accused some senior government advisers and officials of abandoning genuine freedom fighters who stood firm during difficult political times.

According to participants at the gathering, Mambala is being blamed for allegedly sidelining activists and grassroots mobilizers who fought for political change and supported the 2025 electoral movement.

The angry supporters claim that instead of empowering loyal activists, some officials are now allegedly embracing organizations and individuals who were at the forefront of demonstrations and campaigns that contributed to the fall of the DPP administration in 2020.

Activists at the meeting expressed frustration that individuals who once criticized the government and openly attacked leadership under former President Lazarus Chakwera are now allegedly receiving recognition and opportunities while committed supporters are being ignored.
Several women activists who attended the meeting have since come out publicly, calling on the country’s leadership to take urgent action against Mambala.

“We cannot continue watching genuine freedom fighters being ignored while opportunists are rewarded. Those who defended the movement deserve respect and recognition,” said one of the women activists during the discussions.
The activists further accused some government insiders of failing to listen to concerns repeatedly raised by young political mobilizers and social activists operating through the widely followed Malawi Freedom Fighters platform.

The emotionally charged meeting reportedly attracted prominent activists, organizers, and influential grassroots figures who criticized what they described as growing disconnect between political leadership and loyal supporters on the ground.
Political observers say the growing tensions could expose widening divisions among supporters and activist structures aligned with the current political establishment.
