A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has hailed the High Court decision that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) must conduct elections for all regional and district committees.

Kamphangala has also hailed the Appellant Lovemore Chauwa Phiri for going to the court that five – year term for all office bearers in the committees had expired describing him as a patriotic MCP member.
In the judgement, the court has ordered the MCP to conduct these elections within 12 months saying this is the way to go urging MCP members and supporters to stand with the court’s decision that it has come at the right time.

Kamphangala has also appealed to either the same Mr. Lovemore Chauwa Phiri or another MCP patriotic member to go to court for the court to rule that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is running the party unconstitutionally and he deserves to step down.
He said the MCP constitution is clear that the President shall stand in the elections for two consecutive terms of office saying President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera stood in the 2014 and 2019 elections, his terms of office were over.
The MCP diehard said unconstitutionally, President Chakwera was endorsed as a presidential candidate in the September, 2025 elections and some people have indirectly endorsed him to lead the party in the 2030 elections.

He said after losing the September, 2025 elections, President Chakwera was supposed to step down honourably but there are others in the MCP who are doing everything possible for the MCP constitution to continue to be broken into pieces.
” MCP is a national party not a briefcase typed party as the case with other parties in Malawi,” said Kamphangala.
He said there are some people in the MCP who are above the law by turning the party into a
briefcase typed one owned by individuals driving the party as a family party.

The MCP diehard has assured the MCP that even though they are indirectly endorsing Chakwera for the 2030 elections, he will again suffer an embarrassing defeat and the MCP cannot stand in the campaign to defend him.
Kamphangala has finally urged MCP members and supporters to be thinking outside the box the future of the party warning them that as things are going in the party, it will be better for the party not to field a presidential candidate in the 2030 elections claiming that Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has been a waste of time to those MCP members and supporters that are seeing the future of the party.
