Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa and others have withdrawn a K87 million demand as costs in a case they won against the DPP Party. Nankhumwa, DPP Secretary General, Grezelder Jeffrey, Treasurer General, Jappie Mhango and Mulanje West MP Yusuf Nthenda won a case in which they were challenging their expulsion from the party. Nthenda has told MBC that their lawyers filed for the assessment of the costs without their knowledge.

The High Court in Lilongwe has adjourned to 18 July, an inter-parties hearing of a case where some members of the Democratic Progressive Party are challenging the appointment of George Chaponda as Leader of Opposition in Parliament. Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda was supposed to start hearing the case on Thursday but both parties sought an adjournment to work on documents saying some issues have emerged around the case. A total of 22 members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have obtained an injunction restraining the party from implementing its decision to appoint George Chaponda as the new Leader of Opposition. The High Court in Lilongwe granted the injunction. Lawyer for the claimants, Wapona Kita, told the press that the election of Chaponda violates the legislators' political right to vote for a Leader of Opposition as they were not invited to the meeting that elected Chaponda. One of the Democratic Progressive Party senior members, Mark Botomani says Kondwani Nankhumwa is still Leader of the Opposition, quashing aside Page House's declaration that George Chaponda has taken over from Nankhumwa.
