Thom Mpinganjira Sets Goals For Nomads

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers president Thom Mpinganjira has challenged the team to sweep all trophies including the TNM Super League championship this season.

Mpinganjira made the demand on Thursday when the team unveiled K760 million packages from its partners at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre

“We want you players to play to win everything this season. They should win every game in the league and all the cups,” he said.

The philanthropist asked Wanderers supporters to behave and rally behind the team throughout the campaign.

“We demand total discipline from supporters this season. We will not be punished for supporters’ mistakes but we will allow the authorities to ban them [supporters],” he said.

Mpinganjira asked Wanderers management to speed up the hiring of a chief executive officer and accountant among others.

“We are tired of running the league unprofessionally. We need to set up a fully-fledged secretariat as soon as possible. By the way, when are we hiring a CEO and an accountant,” Mpinganjira asked while looking at the team’s board secretary Chancy Gondwe.

In his response, Gondwe promised to complete the recruitment process soon.

“We will make sure that we set up a secretariat in place as soon as possible. The sponsorship we have from Mukuru and Ekhaya cannot go without having a team to account for this huge money.

“We want to be transparent so that every penny is accounted for. As the president said we have to put in place a very good team to deliver,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wanderers Supporters National Chairperson Dennis Chitsulo said the supporters had transformed.

“We cannot afford to disappoint the president and entire management. We are now disciplined. This season we want to support the team and encourage our players to play to win,” Chitsulo said.

On Thursday, Mukuru, Ekhaya Farm Foods and the Thompson and Barbara Mpinganjira Foundation announced a package worth K760 million.

Ekhaya and the foundation have committed to contribute K410 million this season while Mukuru will inject K350 million to cater for two years.

Meanwhile, Mukuru representative Peggy Mhone reiterated that the K350 million package is for two years.

Wanderers will begin their campaign against Civil Service United at Kamuzu Stadium Sunday.
