The United Transformation Movement (UTM) has commended the resignation of Agnes NyaLonje as a minister of labour citing that her decision was expected.
Speaking in an interview with Our News Platform Mw, Felix Njawala, UTM’s spokesperson said NyaLonje’s resignation was a personal choice, and the party is excited by her decision.
NyaLonje, who served as the Minister of Labour, resigned from her position, after the death of former UTM leader Saulos Chilima.
However, her resignation has sparked debate, with some critics arguing that her decision was influenced by her diminished role in the the government.
The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has commended NyaLonje for her decision, stating that it reflects the growing discontent among Malawians with the current administration.
Sylvester Namiwa, CDEDI’s executive director, urged other government officials to follow NyaLonje’s example and resign from their positions if they are not committed to serving the people.
Meanwhile, the government has not officially commented on NyaLonje’s resignation.
Moses Kunkuyu, the Minister of Information, has declined to comment on the matter, sparking speculation about the government’s stance on NyaLonje’s decision.
