Police in Ntchisi have recovered fourteen herds of cattle and arrested two people, in connection to the theft.
The cattle rustlers are Identified as Dayigo Kammunda, 45, and Mwadzama Chikusa, 47.
The fourteen stolen herds of cattle worth 6.5 million Kwacha belongs to Thomas Dziweni.
Ntchisi Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Yohane Tasowana confirmed the arrest of the two suspects following a complaint from the owner of the cattle.
He said the owner of the cattle reported that unknown criminals had stolen his cattle during the night of April 7, 2022 at Sankhani Village in Ntchisi District.
According to Tasowana said ” in reaction to the incident, Ntchisi Police detectives made an ambush which led to the arrest of the first suspect Dayigo Kammunda and recovered six herds of cattle from him.”
Upon questioning the suspect, police recovered eight herds of cattle at Kaphiriundika Forest, leading to the arrest of the second suspect, Mwadzama Chikusa.
The two will appear before court soon to answer the charge of theft of cattle leveled against them.
Currently police have launched a manhunt for a third suspect who is still on the run.
Dayigo Kammunda has other four similar charges to answer and he hails from Mtondo Village in Traditional Authority Kalumo while Mwadzama Chikusa hails from Chilooko village in Traditional Authority Chilooko, both from Ntchisi District.
