The Flames Legends, a team of former Malawi national football players, has successfully raised MWK 28 million in just one week, as they prepare to face Zambia’s Legends team in a highly anticipated match.

The Legends management had earlier expressed concern over a funding shortfall of MWK 7 million needed for the upcoming game. Following this, several well-wishers and organizations stepped in to support the team.

Among the contributors, Wanderers President Thomson Mpinganjira donated MWK 2.5 million, while Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya added MWK 1 million. FAM itself contributed MWK 4 million, and OG Plastics donated MWK 2 million.

Jim Kaluwa, head of the Flames Legends organization, expressed gratitude to the companies and individuals who supported the initiative. “We appreciate the generosity of everyone who has helped us. Their support is a testament to their love for football and the Flames Legends’ cause,” Kaluwa said.

Speaking about his contribution, Thomson Mpinganjira said he was pleased to assist. “As a football enthusiast, I didn’t hesitate to support the Flames Legends’ mission. Their work inspires many,” Mpinganjira stated.

In the first leg of the match, held in Lusaka, Zambia, the Flames Legends lost 2-1. The rematch is scheduled to take place this Saturday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. Fans are eagerly awaiting the game, which promises to be a thrilling display of skill and nostalgia.
