The National Economic Empowerment Fund (Neef) has so far reached over 30,000 farmers with fertilizer under its loan farm inputs programme, out of a target of 400,000 farmers.
Neef Chief Executive Officer Humphrey Mdyetseni revealed this during a distribution exercise of 300 bags of NPK fertilizer in Traditional Authority Chimutu’s area in Lilongwe.
Despite the current figures, Mdyetseni expressed confidence in achieving significant progress, with plans to support over 200,000 farmers by the end of this month.
“We are going to pull up our socks so that the remaining farmers can be supported through this programme to cultivate crops that thrive in February, March, and April,” Mdyetseni assured.
Member of Parliament for the area, Winston Kaimapanjira, pledged to collaborate with local leaders to ensure the fertilizer is used effectively for its intended purpose.
One of the beneficiaries, Getrude Nyemba, lauded Neef for the initiative, saying it would help farmers boost their harvests during this growing season.
The programme is part of Neef’s efforts to empower farmers with inputs to enhance productivity and promote food security across the country.
