Civil Service United defender Masiya Manda has officially written to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), requesting the governing body’s intervention regarding his contract situation with the club. The player is seeking to part ways with Civo, but the terms of his contract require him to pay a release fee of MWK 10 million before leaving.
Manda, who is under contract with Civo until 2026, believes that his current situation needs urgent resolution, prompting him to escalate the matter to FAM. His letter highlights concerns over the financial obligations imposed by the club, which he finds restrictive and unfavorable for his career progression.
The talented defender has attracted interest from two of Malawi’s football giants—FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers. Both clubs are reportedly keen on securing his services, given his impressive performances in the TNM Super League. However, the hefty release clause in his contract remains a stumbling block, making it difficult for him to make a move.
Sources within the football fraternity suggest that Manda’s case could set a precedent for player contract negotiations in Malawi. If FAM intervenes, it could influence how player transfers and contractual disputes are handled in the future, ensuring that both clubs and players operate within fair and transparent agreements.
As of now, Civil Service United has not made an official statement regarding Manda’s request, but football analysts predict that FAM’s involvement may lead to negotiations that could either reduce the release fee or pave the way for a mutual agreement between the player and the club.
The football community will be closely watching how this issue unfolds, especially given the rising demand for quality players in Malawi’s top-flight league. For Masiya Manda, the next few weeks could be crucial in determining his future, as he seeks to secure a move to a bigger club while ensuring that his contractual obligations are met.
