An unidentified group of criminals broke into the JIA BAI LI shop in Lilongwe on Tuesday night, stealing various goods and causing significant damage to the premises.

According to the shop’s manager, Innocent Banda, the thieves, who are believed to be more than five in number, forced their way into the storage room and stole merchandise.

In addition to looting goods, the criminals also broke open cash storage boxes, making away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Banda explained that after the break-in, the police arrived at the shop during the night to provide security at the premises.

He further stated that the police also obtained security footage that captured the suspects in the act of committing the crime.

Meanwhile, Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu has confirmed that investigations into the robbery are currently underway.

Chigalu revealed that, so far, three security guards who were on duty at the time of the incident have been arrested.

The police suspect that the security guards may have been sleeping during the robbery, allowing the criminals to execute their plan without resistance.

Chigalu assured the public that law enforcement officers are working tirelessly to track down the suspects and recover the stolen goods.

The robbery has raised concerns among business owners in Lilongwe, as cases of break-ins and theft continue to rise in the city.

Some traders have called for increased police patrols and stronger security measures to prevent such crimes from happening in the future.

As investigations continue, many Malawians will be waiting to see whether authorities will bring the perpetrators to justice.
