United Transformation Movement (UTM) Member of Parliament(MP) for Mzimba-Luwelezi, Sam Chirwa, has distributed shoes to 70,000 women and suits to all chiefs in his constituency.
In an interview with journalists,Chirwa said that, in addition to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) provided by the government, he felt it was necessary to initiate his own development projects.
“I took it upon myself to ensure that every chief in my constituency received a suit and that every woman had a pair of shoes.
“I have now completed the initiative, and every woman in my constituency has received shoes,” he said.
The legislator revealed that his initial target was to distribute 46,000 pairs of shoes, but he managed to provide 70,000 pairs, exceeding his expectations.
He further announced that after September 16, more life-changing initiatives should be expected in Mzimba Luwelezi, with a special focus on youth empowerment.
“I want every young person to have a small business. I will be distributing K200,000 to each youth for business startup, and I will make sure it happens,” stated Chirwa.
He emphasized that the funds for this initiative would come from his personal business and his strong connections with influential individuals outside the country.
Chirwa, who is one of the youngest legislators in the country, highlighted that he has achieved more developmental progress in a short time compared to his predecessors.
