MCP’s web of deceit: Gertrude Mutharika’s name dragged into fray

By Jones Gadama

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has once again been accused of sowing seeds of disunity in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) by spreading falsehoods.

This time, the MCP has allegedly fabricated a story that Gertrude Mutharika, the former First Lady, has angered the DPP National Executive for proposing Norman Chisale, a personal bodyguard, to succeed President Peter Mutharika as the party’s president.

According to sources within the DPP, this is nothing but a malicious lie aimed at creating confusion and disunity within the party.

“This is a clear case of MCP’s desperation to destabilize the DPP,” said a senior DPP official, who wished to remain anonymous.

He added, “They have been trying to create divisions within our party for a long time, but their efforts have been in vain.”

The MCP’s tactics are not new. They have been using similar strategies to sow discord among other opposition parties in the past.

However, their latest attempt to drag Gertrude Mutharika’s name into the fray has been met with widespread condemnation from DPP supporters and officials.

“Gertrude Mutharika is a respected member of our party, and we will not allow the MCP to use her name to create confusion,” said another DPP official adding that, “We urge our supporters to remain calm and focused, and not to fall for the MCP’s cheap tricks.”

The MCP’s actions are a clear indication of their desperation to cling to power.

With the DPP gaining momentum ahead of the next general elections, the MCP is becoming increasingly isolated and desperate.

Their tactics may have worked in the past, but they will not succeed this time around.

As the DPP continues to consolidate its support base, the MCP is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Their attempts to create divisions within the DPP will only serve to further weaken their own party.

In the end, it is the people of Malawi who will suffer from the MCP’s desperate attempts to cling to power.

The country needs a united and focused opposition to hold the ruling party accountable, not a divided and confused one.

As the saying goes, “you reap what you sow”.¹ The MCP’s seeds of discord will ultimately lead to their own downfall.

The DPP, on the other hand, will continue to grow stronger and more united, ready to take on the challenges of leading this great nation.

The MCP’s latest attempt to create confusion within the DPP has failed miserably.

The party’s supporters and officials have seen through their desperate tactics, and they will not be swayed.

As the country moves forward, it is clear that the DPP is the party of the future, while the MCP is increasingly becoming a relic of the past.
