The Opposition Democratic Progressive Party -DPP has described as empty and senseless a speech by President Lazarus Chakwera on New Year.
In his Speech delivered on New Year, Chakwera promised to reshuffle and trim his cabinet in this month of January.
But in a Statement signed by Shadric Namalomba Spokesperson for former President Peter Mutharika and opposition Democratic Progressive Party-DPP, Chakwera’s Speech lacked sense of direction and was a total reflection of the disregard of the suffering that Malawians are enduring due to governance failure.
Among others the DPP has expressed disappointment with lack of decisive action at the time when the health sector is in crisis, at the time Malawi is standing face to face with hunger and amid challenges facing the AIP.
In the Statement, DPP has made the following demands that; the cabinet be trimmed to a maximum of 20 and that all deputy ministerial positions be abolished.
DPP also want Presidential advisors removed, total number of personnel on foreign missions reduced to no more than five at each embassy and that the idea by President Chakwera to establish Presidential Private Sector Council be reversed.
“Stop the looting and plunder of public resources,” reads the last demand.
