Action for Progress donates 70 boxes of supplementary textbooks to 14 schools in Mzimba South

In a bid to enhance the understanding of lessons in primary schools, Action for Progress has donated 70 boxes of supplementary textbooks to 14 schools in Mzimba South. The donation aims to address the shortage of learning materials and improve educational standards in the region.

Speaking at Kavitobo Primary School during the handover ceremony, Executive Director of Action for Progress, Wilson Tembo, emphasized that the donation is part of the organization’s efforts to bridge the gap created by the lack of textbooks in many primary schools across Mzimba.

“This initiative addresses the critical shortage of textbooks that has affected the quality of education in many schools. By providing these supplementary resources, we hope to support learners in their academic journey and improve their overall performance,” said Tembo.

Bridget Nungu, Director of Education and Sports for Mzimba South, highlighted the challenges faced by learners in rural areas, particularly their limited access to e-learning services. She stressed the importance of providing supplementary textbooks to promote reading and raise education standards.

“Many learners in rural areas do not have access to e-learning services, and providing them with supplementary textbooks is essential in promoting a reading culture and improving education standards,” said Nungu.

Nungu expressed hope that the initiative would positively impact the district’s performance in the upcoming Standard 8 exams. Currently, Mzimba South ranks 33rd out of 34 educational districts, making it one of the least performing regions in the country. The donated textbooks are expected to contribute to improved outcomes in the near future.
