In a bid to improve the livelihoods of islanders on Likoma and Chizumulu, duty bearers on Saturday inspected the Constituency Development Funded construction works of the Under-5 Clinic under Yofu Makulawe (YOMA) Village Development Committee.
The clinic, which is expected to be commissioned in January 2025, will provide much-needed medical services to the islanders, reducing the walking distance to access healthcare.
Leading the inspection, Member of Parliament Christopher Ashems Songwe emphasized the importance of ensuring that the funds benefit all people in the area.
“Good health is crucial for socioeconomic development,” Songwe said.
With the clinic’s expected completion in January 2025, the islanders eagerly await improved access to quality healthcare services.
The clinic will not only improve access to the medical center but also provide antenatal healthcare services, as noted by YOMWA VDC member Patricia Dilisha.
Administrator Moses Jere cautioned the contractor, Cheyeka Contractors Limited, to maintain the stipulated standards, warning that failure to do so would result in the immediate revocation of the contract.
The project, valued at K114 million, is a significant investment in the health and wellbeing of the islanders.
