An eight-year-old girl and a 34-year-old man have been left with serious injuries following a shooting in west London, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening in the area of Ealing, west London, when the two victims were struck by gunfire. Emergency services were quickly called to the scene, where they found both the girl and the man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man, believed to be in his thirties, was taken to a nearby hospital, while the girl was rushed to the hospital with injuries that are understood to be serious but not life-threatening.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. While it is not yet clear whether the two victims were the intended targets, detectives are exploring all lines of inquiry as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“We are working hard to understand exactly what happened during this violent incident, and I would encourage anyone with information to come forward to assist in our investigation,” said a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police.
The local community has been left shocked by the attack, with many expressing their concern about the safety of children and families in the area. One local resident described the incident as “shocking” and “heartbreaking,” especially given the age of the young girl involved.
Authorities have stated that they are taking the matter very seriously and are doing everything they can to ensure that those responsible for this crime are brought to justice. The shooting has raised further concerns about the rise in gun violence in parts of London, particularly in areas where families and children live.
In the wake of the shooting, police are stepping up their patrols in the area to provide reassurance to local residents. They are also urging anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the area at the time of the incident, or who has any relevant information, to contact them.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Met Police are continuing to gather evidence and are hopeful that the public can assist in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice.
Both victims are currently receiving medical care, and the authorities are closely monitoring their conditions. The police have promised updates as more information becomes available.
