The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), often hailed as the “mighty” opposition, is making waves in Lilongwe Urban with a determined campaign aimed at mobilizing voters for next year’s presidential election. Led by a formidable team of party stalwarts, the DPP is rallying citizens to register in large numbers to secure their eligibility to cast votes in what promises to be a defining moment for Malawi.
At the forefront of this campaign is DPP Vice President for the Central Region, Alfred Gangata, joined by Chimwemwe Chipungu, Presidential Advisor to former President Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) and popularly known as the “landslide specialist.” Director of Elections Jean Mathanga and District Youth Governor Saidi Mussa have also lent their voices to this critical exercise.
In their impassioned speeches, the DPP leaders urged Malawians to take their democratic responsibility seriously by registering to vote. The team emphasized the importance of active civic participation, framing it as the key to ushering in a government capable of steering the country out of its current economic challenges.
Jean Mathanga highlighted the urgency of the registration drive, stating, “Every vote counts, and the time to act is now. We cannot afford to stay on the sidelines when our nation’s future is at stake.”
Alfred Gangata echoed similar sentiments, encouraging Lilongwe residents to heed the call and ensure their voices are heard in 2025.
The campaign also took a critical tone against the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), accusing it of poor economic governance. Speakers pointed to rising poverty levels, unemployment, and widespread discontent as evidence of MCP’s failure to deliver on its promises.
Chimwemwe Chipungu, the “landslide specialist,” was particularly vocal, urging voters to “dethrone the MCP government” in the upcoming elections. He argued that the current administration had failed to address pressing national issues, leaving Malawians yearning for the stable governance and development associated with the DPP’s tenure.
Notably, the campaign emphasized the role of young people in shaping Malawi’s future. District Youth Governor Saidi Mussa rallied the youth to actively participate in the registration process and vote for change. “The youth are the backbone of this country,” he said. “It is our duty to lead the charge for a brighter tomorrow.”
As the 2025 presidential election draws closer, the DPP’s voter registration campaign in Lilongwe Urban underscores the party’s readiness to take on the MCP and reclaim power. By urging Malawians to register and vote, the DPP is positioning itself as a beacon of hope for those disillusioned with the current administration.
With its strong messaging and focus on mobilizing the electorate, the DPP’s campaign serves as a reminder of the critical role citizens play in shaping the nation’s destiny.
