Joy and Excitement at Kamuzu Stadium During the One Nico Blantyre Mayor’s Trophy Finals

Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre was filled with excitement as primary school pupils and their teachers gathered to witness the finals of the prestigious One Nico Blantyre Mayor’s Trophy competition.

The event kicked off in style with a parade of trophies for football and netball, which were carried by energetic girls riding in an open-roof vehicle from the Nico Group offices to Kamuzu Stadium, captivating onlookers along the way.

The Mayor of Blantyre City, Joseph Makwinja, and his deputy, Isaac Jomo Osman, led the parade alongside Chifundo Chiundira, a senior official from Nico Group, and Ivy Chinangwa, the head of sports at the Malawi National Council of Sports.

Pupils from various primary schools showcased their skills in competitive matches that included football, netball, and athletics. The annual event provides a platform for young talents to shine while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship.

One teacher at the event remarked, “This competition is vital for encouraging children to understand the importance of sports and equipping them with skills that will help them in their lives.”

Sponsored by Nico Group, the One Nico Blantyre Mayor’s Trophy aims to promote sports in primary schools across Blantyre. Beyond entertaining the audience, the event serves as a crucial platform for discovering and nurturing future sports stars.

The finals concluded on a high note, leaving attendees delighted by the spectacle and inspired by the young participants’ impressive performances. The event once again underscored the importance of investing in grassroots sports development.
