A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda, has called on patriotic Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in and outside the country to join Malawi First group noble work of tracing funds allocated for Mombera University in Mzimba district.
Kaliza Banda recalled that former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika laid a foundation stone for the construction of the university and everything was put in place that the university will be built claiming that in 2017 he launched the project in Mzimba district,
She said the new government of the MCP led by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has from 2020 been providing funds for the construction of the project with hope that the university will be completed and on the other side blaming the DPP led government for failing to complete its own initiated project.
The then, Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa –Wirima proudly informed the nation that the University’s first intake will be on 5th February, 2025, the message hits the ears of each and every Malawi praising President Chakwera as a deliverer.
A visit to the site by Malawi First crew led by activist Bon Kalindo has established that there is no such completed project dismissing the calling of President Chakwera a deliverer as a total lie saying if indeed Chakwera delivered on the Mombera university is paper work only not on the ground.
Speaking during a media conference, Kalindo has assured government that he and the Malawi First crew will not retreat in pursuing for justice to be seen so that Malawians are aware of where their funds which government has been allocating to Mombera university have gone.
Kalindo said it is sad that politicians of the ruling party in Malawi have been taking Malawi as their garden for harvesting crops which they did not sewn while hospitals are being run without medical drugs and needy students are being sent back home for failing to pay school fees.
He said it is sad also that billions and billions of Kwachas are going into the pockets of politicians while millions of people in the country are sleeping with empty stomachs and have no hope for a better tomorrow.
The activist has sounded a Serve Our Souls (SOS) over Malawians living in South Africa that many are stuck and government is not supporting them while others are in Lindela prison, a prison which is in food deficit saying their cries, no one in Malawi is listening to them.
“If the Malawi courts rule in favor of government, we will take the matter far away until justice is seen,” said Kalindo.
Mrs. Kaliza Banda has asked CSOs to take government to the table to explain the whereabouts of the funds meant for M7 Road which run from Dzaleka Camp in Dowa to Ntchisi to join the Malomo –Nkhotakota Road claiming that the contractor was stopped after allegedly pocketed K5 billion for a no work done.
She has also requested CSOs to hold the MCP government to account for the funds which President Chakwera stood in Parliament for 3 hours outlining projects which his government has completed in 5 years such as police, Army and Prison houses, health centres and other projects.
The woman said it was shame that President Chakwera presented projects that were completed on paper while on the ground, they are not existing claiming that billions of Kwachas were spent for paper work demanding all those involved, to be brought to book and return the money to the people.
