“I’m ready to serve Malawi with integrity”: Exclusive Interview with Edward Kambanje, Running Mate to Prophet David Mbewe

By Burnett Munthali

On Tuesday, 29 July 2025, Prophet David Mbewe, presidential candidate for the Liberation for Economic Freedom Party (LEFP), announced Edward Kambanje as his running mate for the September 16 General Election. In this exclusive interview, Mr. Kambanje shares his reflections on the appointment, the LEFP’s mission, and his vision for Malawi.

A humbling appointment

“It was an honour and a humbling moment,” said Kambanje. “I felt a deep sense of responsibility, knowing the trust that Prophet Mbewe and the party have placed in me. I am ready to serve and contribute to Malawi’s transformation.”

Bringing experience and vision

“I bring experience, discipline, and a deep understanding of governance and people’s everyday struggles,” he explained. “My background in public service and development work has prepared me to support Prophet Mbewe in delivering our vision.”

Economic liberation for all

“Our main agenda as LEFP is economic liberation,” Kambanje emphasized. “We aim to uplift the living standards of Malawians by promoting inclusive growth and opportunity for all.”

Solid partnership with Prophet Mbewe

Speaking about his working relationship with Prophet Mbewe, Kambanje noted, “We have a relationship built on mutual respect, shared values, and the belief that Malawi needs ethical, servant leadership. We consult regularly and are united in our goal to bring economic justice to Malawians.”

A people-driven party

“LEFP is built on truth, transparency, and economic freedom. Our policies prioritize empowering local communities, supporting entrepreneurs, and restoring dignity in public service,” he said. “We are people-driven, not politics-driven. We want to create jobs, promote youth and women, and empower them economically. These pillars are at the core of our movement.”

Not a performer, but a servant

“Leadership is not about noise or political theatrics. It’s about results and values,” he stressed. “I may not have been a career politician, but I have always been a servant of the people. That is what this country needs—real servants, not performers.”

Focus on accountability and service

Kambanje promised to focus on improving government accountability: “I would work to ensure accountability in public spending, reduce waste, and strengthen institutions that serve ordinary citizens. Together with Prophet Mbewe, we will restore trust in government. We want to make sure public money benefits the people and reaches every corner of Malawi.”

A campaign of humility

“With humility and focus, I’m here to serve, not to compete for fame,” he said. “I will use this campaign to listen to people, understand their needs, and represent their voices with integrity.”

Message to the youth and women

“You are the future, and we will create an economy that includes you,” he said to the youth. “We’ll invest in education, skills development, and job creation so you can thrive and build a life of dignity here in Malawi. Empowering the youth and women is not a slogan for us—it’s a key part of our economic strategy.”

Blending vision and execution

“Prophet Mbewe is a visionary with a strong moral compass. I am a strategist who ensures systems work. Together, we will combine vision with execution to deliver on our promises,” Kambanje said confidently.

A legacy of service

Finally, he shared his long-term hope: “A legacy of honest leadership, service to the people, and systems that work for everyone—not just the elite. I want Malawians to say, ‘Edward Kambanje helped build a better Malawi.’”

As the campaign season gains momentum, Edward Kambanje’s calm, thoughtful, and principled approach is likely to resonate with voters seeking authentic leadership. His appointment reflects Prophet Mbewe’s focus on integrity. Together, they present a fresh ticket in Malawi’s competitive 2025 presidential race.
