BMTV backs Attorney General Frank Mbeta in Amaryllis Hotel sale

By Vincent Gunde

Bakili Muluzi TV online television station, says Attorney General Frank Mbeta’s job is to provide legal advice to government dismissing claims which are being made that he was part and parcel of those who overpriced the sale of Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.

Bakili Muluzi TV said civil servants retire after 60 years, they give 5 percent of their salaries to the Public Service Pension Trust Fund (PSPTF) and government adds 10 percent so that after reaching retiring age, they should be receiving their Contributory Pension Funds.

He said the Board of Trustees of the Public Service Pension Trust Fund meet to decide what to do with the money either for government to borrow for Roads infrastructural projects or hotels as it happened with Amaryllis Hotel sale in Blantyre.

The activist said Board Chairperson of the Pension Fund is Mr. Chizaso Nyirongo who was Director of Legal Services in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) and is a close associate of President Chakwera, saying from 2020 he was entrusted to serve in many very important government activities than anyone else in the public service.

He has reminded Malawians that Chizaso Nyirongo was the Secretary for the National Intelligence Tribunal in 2023 and in 2024 he was Secretary for the Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima’s Commission of Inquiry, appointment of individuals to serve in this commission and calling of witnesses to testify before the commission, were allegedly made buy him.

Bakili Muluzi TV said the Board of TrusteesS under the instruction of the powerful Chizaso Nyirongo who was allegedly close to President Chakwera and Colleen Zamba agreed to sale Amaryllis Hotel in 2024 at K33 billion and in 2025 the figure rose to K128 billion after allegedly conniving with the Indians to share the remaining balance.

He said he is very surprised reading from the ACB report of 16th December, 2025 that there was no explanation on the reasons that made the sale of Amaryllis Hotel to be overpriced from the initial K33 billion to K128 billion and the name of Chizaso Nyirongo is not appearing.

The activist said in 2024 government procured Panadol through the advice of Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda from Farook at K16 billion but the Panadol did not reach public hospitals saying this was the same with K750 million fertilizer from a UK butchery and K263 million fertilizer from Namibia, all this did not come into the country.

He said Malawians accused President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and two Agriculture Ministers Lobin Lowe and Sam Kawale for procuring fertilizer which did not come into the country but there was no mention of Attorney General, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, he was innocent.

“Today, people are blaming the Attorney General Frank Mbeta for the sale of Amaryllis Hotel questioning Malawians who changed the figures from K33 billion to K128 billion that was it Frank Mbeta or Chizaso Nyirongo?

“Chizaso Nyirongo besides being connected to President Chakwera and Colleen Zamba, is a Lawyer by profession, no one is speaking of him but blaming Frank Mbeta for President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to fire him,” said Bakili Muluzi TV.

He has assured Malawians that Frank Mbeta beside being the country’s new Attorney General is innocent on the Amaryllis Hotel sale advising all good thinking people to stop blaming him for no offence committed.
