As the World commemorates World Refugee Day 20th June, 2026 under the theme ” Until everyone is safe” the Inua Advocacy has joined the global community in reaffirming that every person forced to flee, has the right to safety, protection, and dignity.

The Inua Advocacy said for refugees and asylum seekers in Malawi, safety means more than escaping war and persecution, it means free from exploitation, corruption, discrimination, and fear with access to justice, documentation, education, healthcare, livelihoods, and opportunities to rebuild life with dignity.Dowa Council Water sector conducts DCT validation on water points

The organization has commended the Government of Malawi for its efforts to assist Malawian nationals stranded in South Africa amid threats posed by Operation Dudula, and recognize its appeal for support to facilitate their safe return saying people facing displacement deserve compassion, protection, and practical support.

Writing in a statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer Innocent Magambi, the Inua Advocacy has called upon humanitarian agencies, development partners, and all relevant stakeholders to support efforts to repatriate Malawians facing danger in South Africa.Dowa Council calls partners to migrate from boreholes to reticulated system

The Inua Advocacy said inside Dzaleka Refugee Camp, thousands continue to live in difficult conditions characterized by inadequate shelter, poor sanitation, limited healthcare, barriers to education, restricted livelihood opportunities, and declining humanitarian funding which has reduced access to essential services and support.

The organization has called for independent investigations over the allegations of excessive force in February, 2026 by the MDF who conducted the third operation in Dzaleka Refugee Camp where gunshots were heard and residents panicked.

It said the organization is troubled by reports of the death and burial of an unarmed Ethiopian migrant in Dzaleka Camp in May, 2026 on the allegations that he may have been a victim of trafficking and snuggling networks operating within the camp, calling for a transparent and independent investigation.WOLREC distributes 20 sewing machines in Ntchisi

The Inua Advocacy said it is concerned by reports that the Camp Administrator and Chief Security Officer has been absent from their duties for several weeks, making it impossible for refugees to obtain the movement permits required to leave the Camp lawfully claiming that the absence of the two Officers in the Camp led to six refugees arrested in Lilongwe for being found outside Dzaleka without permission – the six were sentenced by the court to serve six months’ imprisonment..

The organization has expressed its concern over lack of justice for refugees whose property was confiscated and auctioned following the 2023 forced relocation exercise observing that some refugees received their containers and proceeds from the earlier auction of perishable goods have yet to be disbursed.Chithyola Banda pays tribute to Kamuzu as more than a political leader

” Concerns also persist regarding refugee status determination process that there are reports that the Refugee Committee has not convened for several years resulting in delays and uncertainty for asylum seekers,” reads the statement in part.

The Inua Advocacy has also expressed its deep concern over continued lack of clarity surrounding the issuance of Convention Travel Documents observing that refugees, including students awarded scholarships abroad, continue to face obstacles in obtaining the documentation needed to pursue educational and professional opportunities.
