The delegation follows President Mutharika’s earlier decision last week to appoint Chihana to chair a meeting of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation on his behalf, highlighting the confidence placed in the Second Vice President to represent Malawi at high-level regional engagements.
The meeting will be chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and is expected to consider recommendations from last week’s meeting of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. The discussions are anticipated to focus on the political and security developments in Madagascar and possible regional responses.
The SADC Extraordinary Summit is expected to reinforce the regional bloc’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and democratic governance across Southern Africa, with member states seeking collective solutions to emerging political and security challenges.
