Malawi Reaffirms Commitment to Global Peace and Security at UN Police Summit

Malawi has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global peace, security and international cooperation through its participation in the Fifth United Nations Police Summit held in New York, United States.

Representing President Arthur Peter Mutharika, Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mabvuto Mukhito joined ministers, senior government officials, police chiefs and international security experts from across the world to discuss emerging security challenges and the future of modern policing.

Delegates emphasized that modern policing must be professional, technology-driven, accountable and firmly grounded in the principles of the rule of law, respect for human rights and community trust.

Speaking during the summit, Mukhito reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to strengthening its security institutions and expanding international partnerships aimed at improving public safety and national security.

He said Malawi will deepen collaboration with the United Nations Police (UNPOL), INTERPOL and regional security organizations to enhance policing capacity, improve intelligence sharing and strengthen the country’s ability to respond to emerging security threats.Malawians Rate Malawi Police Service Poor And Corrupt

According to Mukhito, these partnerships will also support ongoing reforms within the Malawi Police Service by promoting innovation, capacity building, professionalism and the adoption of modern policing technologies.

He noted that cybercrime, digital fraud, terrorism and other transnational crimes continue to evolve rapidly, making international cooperation more important than ever before.

The minister further stressed that Malawi remains committed to building a resilient and well-equipped police service capable of protecting citizens while upholding democratic values, human rights and the rule of law.
