Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota Central Constituency who is also a legal Practitioner, Counsel Silvester Ayuba James, has alleged that two senior DPP ministers met secretly with a top – ranking MCP official pleading with MCP parliamentarians to support the impeachment of Sameer Gafar Suleman as Speaker of the National Assembly.
James has alleged that the MCP official has been offered to be First Deputy Speaker after Suleman has been impeached, K5 million to every MCP parliamentarian supporting the impeachment motion.
He said if the allegation is true, some politicians in the country need to be whipped for taking Malawians for granted in the 62 years of independence and 32 years of democracy.
“My heart was strengthened after hearing that the MCP top official, has rejected the offer on the table to impeach Suleman, izi ngati zili zowona andale ena akufunika kukwapulidwa mdziko muno, atitola kwambiri,” reads Ayuba’s writings on the wall.
He said it is also alleged that the office of the Attorney General will not stand with Suleman in the matter which is already at the High Court that Suleman was tied both hands not to go ahead with his plans of forming joint Parliamentary committees to investigate critical issues that are affecting the citizens in the country.
First to break the silence on the impeachment of Suleman as Speaker of Parliament, was Limpopo FM online radio station’s Comrade Ntanyiwa who informed the nation that Hon. Victor Musowa was tipped to become the next DPP Speaker of Parliament.
Comrade Ntanyiwa advised Musowa not to fall into temptations of impeaching Suleman for his name claiming that most Malawians are happy with the way Suleman is conducting business in the National Assembly.
A group of Concerned Citizens of Malawi has urged the Malawi Law Society (MLS) to join in the case at the High Court of Malawi as an interested party to have the injunction obtained by a litigant, Austin Mkoka lifted.
The Concerned Citizens said the injunction obtained against Suleman is undermining parliamentary constitutional oversight role that the 12 joint committees will not start their work of investigating public institutions which have been a major concern to Malawians.
Malawi’s Social and Political Philosopher Mike Arnold Mbalale, said cabinet ministers are standing at the intersection of power and duty reminding them that they were appointed by the President but the source of their authority is not an appointment letter saying it is the social contract they signed with their constituents.
Mbalale said citizens surrendered a portion of their freedom and resources through taxes, obedience to law, and patience with the state saying in return, the citizens expect life to be secured, order to be kept, and dignity to be protected.
He said ministers are not merely managers of budgets, they are custodians of the social contract – they will be judged not only by projects commissioned, but by whether the people feel that their taxes, their votes, and their hope have been honoured with service, integrity, and results.
“You were called to serve the best interests of the people, we will test policy against lived reality, budget lives against service delivery, and promises against the daily experience of the citizens,” reads Mbalale’s writings on the wall.
